Niki Bell is one of our most established and respected local artists (and a really lovely friend of ours) so we are very excited to be able to welcome her back to The Studio to lead this fabulous class.
 
In this mixed media workshop using both watercolour and pastels, we will explore various techniques to create a really striking and captivating portrait of a stag.
 
The painting has a layered effect, with the initial watercolours providing a soft, fluid base and the pastels adding a striking, vibrant touch at the end. Watercolours give that transparent, dynamic quality, ideal for building up natural tones and textures. The addition of soft pastels in the final layer makes certain areas pop, creating a dynamic contrast between the two mediums.  We know you will agree that it really is a very eye catching effect.
 
You do not need to have had any experience at all for this class with Niki, beginners are very welcome, as are seasoned artists looking to expand their skills.
 
This really will be a wonderful class absolutely packed with techniques and skills to really help you develop your artistic style, as well as lots of relaxing painting time in our Holmer Green Studio. 
 
Niki's workshop will include:
Drawing starting points - with a main focus on shapes
Then development of lines to create the shape and form of the stag
An introduction to understanding colour, looking briefly at the colour wheel and using a limited palette
The application of paint layers and some key watercolour techniques
Adding pastels to create dramatic effect
 
We will be taking a break around 12.30pm for lunch so please don't forget to bring a packed lunch with you!  We will have our usual supply of unlimited hot drinks and some delicious home made cakes (plus vegan, gluten free and dairy-free options) but no amount of cakes will be a substitute for a real lunch so do bring one if you think you may get peckish!
 
This class will be taking place in our Studio in Holmer Green.

All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead, we will contact you no less than a week before the class is due to take place, and full refunds will be issued.
